José Miguel Fernández Güell is an Architect and an Urban Planner by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) (1979). He has a Master and Ph.D degrees in Urban and Regional Planning by Texas A&M University (1982 and 1984). He got a Fulbright Scholarship for pursuing postgraduate studies in the United States (1981-1982). He was Senior Manager of Strategic Services atAndersen Consulting (1988-1998) and Senior Partner at Güell & Partners Consulting (1998-2005). Presently, he is a fulltime Professor at the Urban and Regional Planning Department and Deputy Director of Research at the School of Architecture (UPM). He has done international consulting work with the European Commission, the lnter-American Development Bank and the United Nations lndustrial Development Organization. ln the last few years, his professional and academic interests have been focused in strategic planning, territorial foresight, economic development, tourism development and governance studies. He is the author of several articles in international scientific journals such as Tourism Management, Foresight, Journal of Urban Technology and disP-The Planning Review. He has authored three books: "El diseño de escenarios en el ámbito empresarial" published by Pirámide (2004), "Planificación Estratégica de Ciudades" published by Reverté (2006) and "Governing the Metropolis" published by Harvard University (2008).
