Claudio Feijóo holds an MSc and PhD in Telecommunication Engineering from Technical University of Madrid (UPM) where he is currently Full Professor and serves as Deputy Director of the Research Centre on Applied Information and Communication Technologies (CeDInt). He also holds an MSc in Economics (specialization in quantitative economics) from Distance Learning National University (UNED), where he is invited lecturer in digital economics. He is as well guest lecturer at IE Business School in digital business.
From the research perspective, after commencing his activity in the field of radar and radio-navigation systems he has devoted the last 20 years to research the evolution and the socio-economic impact of emerging information society technologies, with a focus on broadband infrastructures, mobile communications, and digital content and media industries. He has lately been involved in the areas of energy efficiency, context-awareness, augmented reality, immersive content, social media and digital identity, always from a multidisciplinary perspective and including elements linked with sustainability and the institutional framework for innovation and entrepreneurship.
The multidisciplinary perspective appears in all areas of his teaching, researching and professional activity. Dr. Feijóo has been part of more than 100 research and know-how transfer projects, both public and private, for the most relevant organizations and firms of the information and communications technology sector in Spain, in Europe, north of Africa and Latin America. His international record includes Portugal, Latvia, European Commission, China, Algeria, Australia, and several counties in Latin. From his position at CeDInt he is taking part in some of the most relevant current research programmes in Spain: social media, smart cities and future technologies for the tourism industries. Currently, Dr. Feijóo is leading and coordinating a team of main experts in the field for the project on “Analysis of the economic value of personal information” for the Institute of Prospective Technological Studies of the European Commission. Dr. Feijóo has had also involvements in two other projects with the European Commission in 2012-2013.
Technological Studies of the European Commission, the direction of the Chair in Telecommunications Regulation and Information Society Public Policies at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, and participating in the design of information society development plans and broadband deployment strategies while being adviser for the Spanish State Secretary on Telecommunications and Information Society. For three years he was also dedicated to launch a university spin-off devoted to the transfer of know-how in technology, media and telecommunications.
