Campus of the Future

The UPM Campus of the Future goes beyond being a bare sustainable strategic plan. It is rather an opportunity to gather stakeholders under the same framework of principles, providing them with the missing tools, and enabling them to create added value to the community’s well-being. By doing so, the UPM would be taken to the next level, reaching recognition as one of the best educational institutions worldwide, and providing its students, faculty and staff with the best development opportunities possible.

The development of the strategic plan is based on three values: time required, resources needed and the impact on the campus, people and quality of life. Campus of the future UPM is configured in a three axis ecosystem based on the relative position of each value by comparison with the others.

City of the Future

City of the Future

It is an institutional UPM initiative in order to foster a holistic view of cities in order to deal with urban innovation. Main research centers and urban expert at UPM has joined in this initiative with the following objectives:

  • Increase UPM R&D activities, innovation and education related to future cities in a national and international context.
  • Create an ecosystem where ideas and concepts are developed.
  • Provide an institutional framework to increase cooperation between reseach groups, R6D centres and faculties. This works as an human API that reduces current University fragmentation
  • Increase economic resources working on national and international calls.

ASCIMER

ASCIMER

ASCIMER is a three-year research project led by the Transport Research Center at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (TRANSyT) and carried out together with professors from other different departments and research centers at UPM. It is an initiative supported by the European Investment Bank under the EIB University Research Sponsorship Programme (EIBURS).
The project responds to the lack of standardized metrics and methodologies to assess, prioritize, finance, implement, manage and replicate those initiatives being developed nowadays and referred to as Smart City projects.

Current definition on sustainable urban indicators

Current definition on sustainable urban indicators

This project arises from the collaboration between Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) and Eduardo Torroja Institute for Construction Sciences (ICCET). Its objective is to develop a library of existing indicators in order to facilitate the analysis of Spanish cities and the evaluation of their main challenges. Fifteen key documents and 976 indicators have finally been assessed. In order to standardize its use, the analyzed indicators are grouped according to the six main actuation fields accepted by EU: Smart Governance, Smart Economy, Smart Mobility, Smart Environment, Smart Living and Smart People. These areas are subdivided again in 33 factors or key objectives for the future cities.

This network starts with experts and alumni of the MCS.

Lupbak is an ecosystem of services (including a frictionless mobile App) that helps users to optimize energy consumption and save in their energy bills, by telling what are the next cheaper hours, and taking into account the evolution of price in the current and coming days. We are forecasting the next days evolution and highlighting hours that are most convenient (or in the contrary, that should be avoided).
