MCS is aware of the best Spanish practices and it arranges field trips to improve professional development and enhance participants networking. Field trips are conducted by their respective experts. Major international companies and the top ones from the IBEX 35 are also involved in field trips providing their significant vision of cities.

Substation Gas Natural Fenosa

MCS close relationship with enterprises leads MCS field trips to actual business market. Energy substations are a key feature for energy performance within the city. MCS participants have the chance to visit a well functioning substations close to Gas Natural Unión Fenosa Headquarters in the South of Madrid.
 
Thereby, Blanca Losada and other Gas Natural Unión Fenosa manager members have the chance first to meet with MCS participants, explain energy business from this big utility point of view to additionally visit a substation, the control center and the energy lab.

Madrid M30

Madrid M30

A ring road main objective is to reduce traffic within the city. Before the ring road is built, the shorter way to cross a city is to cross straight forward to it. Once the ring road is built, the shorter way usually become this same road. Thereby, it absorb the majority of the traffic reducing traffic in the inner urban areas and giving the possibility to planners to develop pedestrian areas or public transport initiatives.

Therefore, this ring roads trends to get the majority of traffic externalities and requires the best management possible. Cameras, sensors and softwares are key elements for M30 manager and technicians.

The M30 headquarters open its doors to MCS participants who can see in real time a regular M30 technician work with big data and visit, not only the M30 installations, but also the underground and air quality filters and ventilation machines of the tunnel below the Madrid Rio project.

Madrid Region Ecological Urbanism

Madrid Region Ecological Urbanism

Richard T.T. Forman, the father of the ecological urbanism and probably the most important figure in the theme comes a couple of days to the MCS. Richard T.T. Forman together with José Pineda, probably the Spanish most recognise expert in this field lead a field trip around Madrid Region to explain the effects of the macroscale in the city. 

Our daily surveys, shows that this trip is one of the most exiting experience in the MCS.

Madrid Rio

Madrid Rio

The most important Urban and Landscape project in Spain, and one of the most important in Europe, is located in Madrid: Madrid Rio. This project was developed by Burgos & Garrido architects, the coordinators of the Urban & Landscape Module. Therefore, MCS participants has the chance to visit this project with the Directors´.

This trip takes advantages of Madrid weather to make enjoyable to students in a bicycle visit around the whole project.

Madrid Neighborhood visit

Urban sociologists study at citizen level the necessities of the different urban actors. Our Society & Governance module coordinator, Jesús Leal, has more than 40 years of experience assessing Madrid Neighborhoods. He explains to MCS participants the main factors that affects citizens quality of life and urban cohesion together with Fernando Altozano.

This opportunity well-rounded this module. It gives the opportunity of MCS participants to work, not only in the sociologist office work based on data analytics, but also feel the experience of their field work, sometimes more important in this field than the office work.

Zaragoza Innovation Neighborhood

Zaragoza Innovation Neighborhood

Zaragoza was the first Spanish municipality to establish a Smart City Department. His Chair "Daniel Sarasa" was a first year students of this Master. Thereby, MCS makes a field trip to Zaragoza to see the innovative work that they are doing.

Daniel Sarasa and other municipal servants receive our participants and explains the municipality vision of Smart Cities and innovation in Cities. MCS participants also have the opportunity to visit Zaragoza innovation neighborhood and the innovation building where main participation processes, venture labs and new technology teaching activities takes place.

Casa de Campo in Cableway

Cableway is on of the oldest mobility vehicles in cities, specially in hilly geography areas. Gines Garrido and Javier Malo leads a field trip to Casa Campo in cableway in the Urban & Landscape Design module.
MCS students have the chance to understand from the air how the Casa the Campo, a peripheric gigant park, integrates nature into Madrid. Once in Casa de Campo, Gines Garrido and Javier Malo explain how to plan a landscape to bring both environmental and recreation benefits to the city.

Casa de las Flores Field Trip

Urban landscape maybe found in specific Madrid hide areas. Burgos & Garrido knows perfectly the most important highlights regards landscape hiding in Madrid. This visit allows MCS participants to know real projects integrated with the city.
